Adebayo Ogunlesi was born on December 20, 1953, in Sagamu, Ogun State, Nigeria. His father, T.O. Ogunlesi, was Nigeria’s first professor of medicine, which gave him an academic foundation from an early age.

He attended Oxford University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
